INDIVIDUAL, sculptural jesmonite. cast by hand.
Jesmonite homewares, objects and art using found and waste materials and inspired by the natural landscape colour and movement. Hand-cast by Artist Daisy Freestone.
Focussing on the theme of reuse of waste materials and using mainly found objects as a starting point, Daisy designs and creates unique, hand cast vessels and homewares from her studio in Hampshire, England.
Having studied Architecture at Glasgow School of Art and, more recently, Mould Making and Casting at Central St Martins, London, inspiration comes from the natural landscape, the amazing variety of colour found within it and the casting process itself. Each vessel is handmade using Jesmonite - an environmentally low impact mineral resin composite - blended with a range of additions and pigments, mostly waste materials which are re-used to produce unique textures and colours.
Each vessel is cast individually, creating a unique and one off object. The pigment and additions for each piece are individually blended before being cast with a particular process which ensures that the eventual surface, pattern and texture will never be the same on any 2 pieces. This displays in the vessels an element of spontaneity, informed and influenced by the weather, season and mood.
